A traditional banana split

David Strickler, who liked creating sundaes at the soda fountain of Tassell Pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1904, is said to have invented the banana split.

Given that banana splits are still a very popular dessert today, it was clearly a success. It is a popular dish to create at home and is available at ice cream stores everywhere.

Ingredients for a Traditional Banana Split

The following ingredients are needed to prepare a classic banana split ice cream sundae.

  • The banana is the main attraction!
  • A scoop of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream
  • Fresh pineapple, either crushed or chopped
  • Syrup of chocolate
  • Freshly sliced strawberries or strawberry sauce
  • Whipping cream
  • Cherry Maraschino
  • Peanuts, chopped

Extra toppings are optional.

Classic banana splits are my favourite. It is flawless in every way, but here are some more suggestions if you want to put a twist on the traditional.

  • Use your preferred flavours and switch up the ice cream!
  • Make use of butterscotch sauce, salted caramel sauce, or hot fudge!
  • Over the top, drizzle melted peanut butter! YUM! Stir the nuts! Add pistachios, walnuts, candied pecans, or pecans!
  • Add some chopped candy bars or Oreo cookies!
  • Add sprinkles, chocolate chips or toasted coconut as garnish!

How to Split a Banana

Make sure you have a long, shallow dish so you can split the banana before you pull out the ice cream. Use the greatest dish you can locate if you don’t have the conventional banana split boats, which can be glass or disposable. Expert advice: ask your grandmother or look for banana split dishes at your neighbourhood secondhand store.

Additionally, confirm that every topping is prepared. Being ready is crucial since we don’t want the ice cream to melt.

Alright, let’s split a banana!

  • First, split the banana in half lengthwise after peeling it. Line a long shallow dish with banana slices, pressing them up to the sides.
  • Between the banana slices, arrange the scoops of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream in a row.
  • Over the vanilla ice cream, spoon the fresh pineapple or drizzle it with the pineapple sauce. Over the chocolate ice cream, drizzle the hot fudge or chocolate syrup. Top the strawberry ice cream with a drizzle of strawberry syrup or a spoonful of fresh strawberries.
  • Place maraschino cherry and big dollop of whipped cream on top of each scoop of ice cream. Add the chopped nuts as garnish, then dig in!
